Offering Trauma Therapy
I believe that we all have a powerful and innate ability to heal from trauma. My work is rooted in this core belief: healing is possible. In particular, I work with folks who have experienced sexual violence, developmental trauma, attachment trauma, emotional abuse and oppression. I also offer sessions for writing letters needed for gender affirmation surgeries.
I engage with trauma work from a somatic-oriented approach; acknowledging that the body also tells the story and has the power to aid you in healing. I aim to provide a space where we can strengthen the mind-body connection and explore safety and danger through this lens.
Additionally, I engage in trauma work from an anti-opression and intersectional lens. I believe that the more we explore and are curious about the impact of oppressions such as racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, fatphobia and xenophobia, the more engaged we are in healing parts of ourselves that may feel pain or shame.
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Women and Gender Studies (and loved it!). After graduating, I worked at a domestic violence safe house and have worn various hats since then, including hospital accompaniment for survivors, crisis work, prevention work and then obtained my Masters degree in Social Work. I found these roles and opportunities led me to my current role as a trauma therapist - where I feel at home. In addition to academia and the work force, I owe my expereince, passion, skills and insight to my family, communities I belong to, my lived experiences and identities and every single person I have had the privilege to work with.
More about me....
I am a Latinx, Spanish-speaking, immigrant woman. I live in DC and enjoy stopping to pet as many dogs as I can when I'm out and about. In my free time, I love to read, hike, figure out how to fit more plants into my space and aim to seek out sunshine and delicious food whenever I can.
