SARAH HOLLAND, LICSW

I am currently accepting new clients for virtual sessions for residents of DC, VA, and MA. Email me at sarahhollandtherapy@gmail.com to set up a free consultation.

Offering individual therapy for adults age 18+

I specialize in working with young adults who are grappling with trauma (whether a recent, acute incident, or chronic trauma/attachment wounds from childhood), life transitions, and/or identity exploration (LGBTQIA+ folks, those who have left religious communities, those newly discovering their neurodivergence, etc).

Many of my clients also come to therapy to work on self-doubt, decision making, anxiety, improving their relationships, connecting more to their emotions and bodies, and wanting to feel more regulated in their emotions.

Approach

Therapy is a place where all of the parts of you - even (especially?) the messy ones - can show up. Together we'll build curiosity and compassion towards these parts to understand what you need to live a fuller, more authentic life. I'll teach you new ways to interact with your thoughts and feelings and help you find new coping skills if your current patterns aren't cutting it anymore.

My clients would describe me as easy to talk to, inquisitive, validating, thought-provoking, and genuine. I'm a visual learner myself, so I use lots of metaphors, imagery, and visualizations in therapy too. If my approach sounds like it might be a good fit for you, reach out and let's chat!

Clinical experience

I've always had an interest in how people create meaning, purpose, and belonging in life. My master's is in social work, which trained me to look at the external forces, in addition to the internal psychology, that impacts a person's mental and emotional wellbeing. I hold a Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice certificate, and have received training in IFS, somatic approaches, Brainspotting, and ERP for treating OCD.

Other clients/concerns I enjoy working with are:

- survivors of sexual violence

- survivors of religious trauma

- codependency and people-pleasing

- relationship issues (whether romantic, friendship, family, or otherwise)

- people unsure what they want out of life

- "overthinkers" and "perfectionists"; those with loud "inner critics"

- those with chronic illnesses, i.e. fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, gynecological conditions, EDS, IBS, etc.

More about me

I'm an outgoing introvert who loves people and their stories. I've lived in the DC area for 11 years. When I'm not doing therapy, I like to read novels, be in the sun, go thrifting, dance, and take way too many pictures of my cat Maggie. I'm also into the enneagram (I'm a 1w2), RuPaul's Drag Race, and pursuing anti-racism and anti-capitalism.
